"I treat my patients how I would want to be treated—like family. I listen and learn about them. I hear their concerns and worries. I share in their failures and their successes. Together, we identify their challenges and formulate a plan to achieve their goals for health and wellness."

During the pandemic, Doug earned his Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner. He worked in Marquette, as a travel nurse, to learn how care was provided at a Level II Trauma Facility with most resources available onsite. Although Doug grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, he has called the Upper Peninsula home for the past 25 years. He currently resides in the Keweenaw and understands the challenges rural health care faces today. Especially here in the U.P.

When asked what prompted him to join the team at LVDHC, he replied, “It is refreshing to place patients first above all else. Afterall, without patients who are our friends, family, and colleagues, choosing us to guide them towards becoming the best versions of themselves, our clinics and hospitals would not exist. When individuals support each other through shared beliefs and values, the population’s needs are met quite easily. Which in turn, allows for the doors to remain open through fiscal accountability.”

When not providing care for our population, Doug enjoys traveling to State and National Parks with his family. He also enjoys hiking, snowshoeing, motorcycling and sunrises/sunsets near the Big Lake—Superior! His greatest accomplishments remain witnessing individuals with challenges succeeding. He seeks more of that.
